    ABC has announced that Wednesday's special edition of "The Bachelor," which was a lead-up to the series that dealt primarily with the casting of the program, produced solid demographic numbers in one of the most competitive hours so far this season. The September 25th airing of "The Bachelor" earned second place in the hour among Women 18-34 (5.8/14) and Teens 12-17 (2.8/9).

  • New German reality show to award jobs to winning contestants

    Reuters reports that Germans competing in a new television gameshow will not be bidding to win a luxury car or exotic holiday. In a country where four million people are out of work, the prize is much more sought-after: a job. In a European version of a program on in Argentina, a country reeling from economic crisis, two unemployed people will compete for one job contract in each show.
  • 'Survivor' producers sue UK celebrity clone

    Sky News (a branch of the UK's BSkyB) reports that Sir Bob Geldof and Castaway Productions, the creators and owners of the concept for Survivor, are suing Granada Television and London Weekend Television for ripping off the concept with their summer UK hit I'm A Celebrity -- Get Me Out of Here!. The lawsuit for copyright infringement claims that the two shows were so similar that popular opinion held that they must be related -- an opinion expressed on the RealityTVWorld message boards but not true, according to Geldof and Castaway.
  • Emmanuel Lewis, MC Hammer, and other has-been celebs sign to star in WB's new 'The Surreal Life' reality show

    Variety reports that the upcoming WB reality series "The Surreal Life" has lined up the kind of dream cast that nightmares are made of. "Marquee" names such as rapper M.C. Hammer, Emmanuel Lewis of the 1980s sitcom "Webster," Mindy Cohn (Natelie from "The Facts of Life,") rocker Vince Neil of the band Motley Crue and former "Baywatch" babe Brande Roderick are on board to move into a house and have their lives taped round-the-clock, ala "The Real World."
  • 'Survivor: Thailand' to reach Australian viewers

    The Melbourne Herald Sun reports that the current American production of Survivor: Thailand (Survivor 5) will be aired on Australian Channel 9 starting on Thursday, October 17. Additional episodes will be shown on Saturday, October 19 -- so the Australian and American schedules will be synchonized from then on.

  • 'No Boundaries' gets 3rd US broadcast chance, show to premiere on Outdoor Life Network September 30th

    The producers of "No Boundaries" -- the show the was hyped by The WB, pulled from the airwaves, returned to the airwaves after several months, and then pulled yet again -- have announced that "No Boundaries" will premiere on the Outdoor Life Network (OLN) on Mondays at 8 pm, beginning September 30th, 2002.

    After being one of the final two remaining HouseGuests with Danielle Reyes, Lisa Donahue emerged triumphant last night as BIG BROTHER 3’s grand prize-winner of $500,000 based on the votes of her former housemates. As the second place winner, Danielle receives $50,000. Lisa is the first woman to win the grand prize in three seasons of BIG BROTHER. Eddie McGee from New York won in season one and Will Kirby from Miami emerged the winner in season two.

  • New FX reality show to 'nominate' American presidential candidate

    Reuters reports that inspired by the success of the Fox hit "American Idol," sister cable network FX is developing a reality show called "American Candidate" that will choose a "people's" nominee for president in 2004. FX said on Friday it has teamed up for the show with R.J. Cutler, the documentary veteran behind the Oscar-nominated film "The War Room," which chronicled Bill Clinton's 1992 campaign for president. Joining him on the project will be director Jay Roach ("Austin Powers") and producer Tom Lassally ("Totally Hidden Video").

    CBS's premiere of SURVIVOR: THAILAND, the fifth edition of television's highest rated and most watched reality series, attracted an average of more than 23 million viewers (on par with last year's two editions) and topped the premiere of last season's SURVIVOR: MARQUESAS in households, adults 25-54, adults 18-49 and adults 18-34, according to Final Nielsen Ratings for Thursday, Sept. 19.

    After being nominated for eviction by Danielle Reyes, the tenth Head of Household, Amy Crews was again evicted from the BIG BROTHER 3 house based on the vote of her fellow HouseGuest, Jason Guy. Amy was also the third to be evicted from the house on Aug. 1, but was voted back into the house on Aug. 15 in a surprise twist in the game.

    Variety reports that "American Idol" finalist Tamyra Gray could soon be returning to Fox -- as an actress. The singer, whose early elimination in the competition generated howls of protest from viewers, is talking to the producers of Fox's "Boston Public" about coming onboard for a multi-episode arc. Meetings are in the preliminary stage, but given TV's quick turnaround capabilities, it's not impossible that Gray could pop up as soon as November.

    Just when you thought Idol-mania might be over, the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Vivendi Universal Publishing has announced a video game. based on the 'American Idol' reality tv show will hit store shelves on Nov. 1. The "American Idol: The Search for a Superstar" game will carry an estimated retail price of $30 and will include a microphone and feature more than 20 tunes on which would-be stars can record their own vocal tracks.

As weathercaster Tony Perkins was doing his usual stop-and-chats with members of the show's streetside studio audience, he happened upon several members of the Push, Nev., hockey team. The rowdy players even foisted a Push Hockey T-shirt on Perkins.
